It's been a while since I have written a blog to update everyone, but there is so much news to announce that I felt it was warranted!
The Nihongo Quest Demo is now available!
You can now download the Nihongo Quest Demo via steam on our Steam page. It's only available for Windows, which I will explain more below.
Nihongo Quest will be taking part of the Steam Next Fest!
The Steam Next fest runs from 10/1-10/7. Please feel free to play the demo of Nihongo Quest (and be sure to review it with a thumbs up!). We may also have some live streams, so be sure to join our Discord to get the latest updates on those!
Nihongo Quest will release January 11th, 2022
No more vague dates on when it will release: we finally have a set date!
For those that have been following us for a while, this is a bit later than our original announced date of Fall 2021. I sincerely apologize for the delay. To make a very long story short, I tried for months and months to get a functional online version of the game up and running.
After a few months of tinkering, I realized that I was sinking far too, and this is probably the biggest reason that the game was delayed a couple of months. As a rookie game developer, there were a lot of lessons I learned from the experience, and I am confident that those lessons will help me support the game going into the future.
Still, it is exciting to have an official date scheduled, and I hope you will look forward to the release with me!
Nihongo Quest on Linux
I'm unsure of if Nihongo Quest will officially launch on Linux. The reason for that is the game runs extremely smoothly on Proton. In fact, it runs so smoothly, that it was actually better than my native port.
I may still upload the native version I have created for people who prefer it, but for the demo, please play using Proton if you would like to play.
Nihongo Quest on Mac
Mac, unfortunately, has run into some more difficult problems. Nihongo Quest, like many games, relies on OpenGL, which Apple has chosen to stop supporting.
I still hope to release on Mac, but I am going to need to figure out a separate solution. At this time, I don't believe the Mac release will coincide with the Windows and Linux releases of the game. In fact, due to Apple restrictions, I may only be able to make it available through the Mac App store. Stay tuned for more updates on this.
Finally, a big thank you
Last but not least, I would like to thank the community that has continued to be active even as I wasn't giving a ton of updates. I have been reading all of your messages, and while I try to respond to every one, I hope you can appreciate that I am hard at work at getting the best game possible ready for all of you.
